computer-assisted collage
This is one of the first things I ever created with the assistance of a
computer. I scanned the quasi-3D ghostlike image of JC and his mom - on a
slight angle from the plane of the scanning bed - multiple times until
they appeared simultaneously. (Thanks to my friend Jonathan who bought
this Holy Plastic Relic for me at Il Vaticano, JC's Head Office and main
training centre, as it were.) I can't remember where I got the plane
image, but I do remember looking for it diligently and being pleased when
I found it. There is something about Jesus and planes together that I
really like. If I ran the Vatican I'd have a fleet of kick-ass jets for
the Pope and his posse. On the inside they'd have shimmering gold leaf,
rich velvet, and lots of incense so that when we de-planed (not to be
confused with "da plane, Boss, da plane") there would be huge clouds of
smoke from which the clergy would emerge in their silk robes like rock
stars! And on the bottom of each plane there would be a huge image of the
crucifix spanning the wings and the fuselage (what a great word, and so
under-used. Actually, when you think about it -- it is used mostly in the
context of "emergency workers searching for pieces of the fuselage", which
is a bit of a downer. It really needs to be used in a positive way to make
up for this. If my proposed Vatican fleet were to be realized maybe
fuselage would get more play because people would be looking up and
saying: "Christ! That really is Jesus on the fuselage!"
