plaster and caramelized bread
This sculptural installation was part of a performance event called Coffee, Culture and Company that also included a slide talk where I discussed the making-of-toast as a parody on the making-of-art. The toast was made throughout the event while people milled about the other artworks, notably a huge coffee shrine by Pamela Sue Hawkins. The toast was placed on the wall from light to dark while the gallery became saturated with the comforting smell of toast.
The center toaster is the one that I developed further into the Prototype.
FYI: Hallwalls was started by Buffalo State College art star alumni Cindy Sherman and Robert Longo. In the fall of 2004 Hallwalls will move into their new home - a beautiful old church on Delaware Ave. purchased by Righteous-Babe-folksinger Ani DiFranco.
